Botanical Conservatory Serving As Additional Cooling Station Amid Dangerous Heat

The Botanical Conservatory on Calhoun Street in downtown Fort Wayne will serve as a cooling station from 11 am to 6 pm Tuesday, in addition to The Rescue Mission.

A heat advisory is currently in effect for Northeast Indiana until 8 pm. High humidity levels combined with temperatures in the 90s will create dangerous conditions for vulnerable residents and place them at greater risk for heat-related illness. The National Weather Service advises all residents “drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun, and check up on relatives, neighbors, pets and other animals.”

Tuesday's heat index could peak at 100 degrees.

Temperatures will continue to hover in the high 80s and low 90s through the rest of the holiday week. Men, women in families in need of a cooling station can visit The Rescue Mission between 7 am and 6 pm when temperatures peak over 80 degrees.

89.1 WBOI will continue to keep residents updated on cooling services offered by the city throughout the week.
