Fort Wayne Community Center Displays Community-Assembled Puzzle

The Fort Wayne Community Center will reopen to the public on Monday, with a new addition to the atrium - a giant framed puzzle put together by the community.

Until recently, the puzzle depicting scenes from 10 Disney movies was the largest puzzle in the world at 40,320 pieces and took about 62 people to assemble.

Originally part of a Longest Day event and a fundraiser for Alzheimer’s support, community members began assembling the puzzle on June 21, 2018. Almost exactly a year later, it was completed.

Community Center manager, Patti Davis, says it was a little emotional seeing all the hard work that went into the puzzle finally on display inside the center.

“So it was just a challenge for us, you know? And we took the challenge and our park foundation helped us, our community center foundation helped me and here we are today.”

Davis says they had three different contractors lined up to hang the puzzle, but they all backed out. The work fell back to the center’s own maintenance team. She says they really deserve the credit for getting the puzzle on the wall.

The puzzle hangs about 20 feet up on the wall above the multi purpose room in the center.

The community will be able to see the puzzle in person when the Community Center reopens.
