Grandma's quilt from the McHale family mansion.

Rock vocalist and former Fort Wayne resident Kat Bowser has just written a fantasy novel for all ages with Ricky Tims,  called Lizzy Albright and the Attic Window.

Part fairytale, part fable, part extreme adventure, this engaging story is set in the nostalgic days of the 1960's and takes place in Cordelia, Kansas.

The excitement all begins on Lizzy's birthday, which is also Christmas Eve, at her grandmother's mansion.

When an antique quilt in her bedroom there sets off a dream of such fantastical proportions a girl and her dog can hardly imagine, Lizzy and Mr. McDougle take off on an action packed race to save a cursed kingdom from an old promise and live happily ever after.

The whole experience is designed to connect generations with this charming Lizzy character, and hopefully build a new generation interested in learning the old fashioned art of quilting.

For a behind the scenes look at the project, WBOI's Julia Meek contacted Bowser by Zoom to discuss the point of their adventure, the various passions at play and how it all has come together.

You can find more information about the project anc how to order at the Lizzy Albright website.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
