Fort Wayne Community Schools will require masks for all students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, beginning Wednesday.
The decision was announced at a school board meeting Monday evening. Superintendent Mark Daniel said the district’s main goal is keeping children in the classroom.
“We know that when kids aren’t in school and we went virtual, should we say, we struggled," he said. "We struggled both as professional educators and our students struggled, parents struggled. And, quite frankly, when students are home, parents are home, our economy struggles.”
On Thursday, the Allen County Department of Health put out guidance for all of the county’s schools encouraging masks.
The first day of school for FWCS students is August 16.
