Hospitalizations Drop Slightly During Weekend

Northeast Indiana’s ICU capacity improved slightly into Monday, with 16.8 percent of beds available and 41 percent occupied by COVID-19 patients. Those numbers are just slightly off where they were at the end of last week.

Hospitalizations around the area were down to 392, coming off a high of 448 on Dec. 1.

According to the Reigenstreif [Ree-gen-streef] Institute which tracks Indiana’s COVID-19 picture across a number of data points, Allen County’s hospitalization rates are rising among those over 60.

Allen County reported no new deaths Monday, and 322 new positive cases. There have been 22,125 residents diagnosed with COVID-19, according to the Allen County Department of Health.

Whitley, DeKalb, LaGrange and Steuben counties have shown the largest jumps for 7-day positivity rates in recent days around northeast Indiana, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

Whitley County’s positivity rate is up to 24.2 percent. LaGrange County has dropped to 20.2 percent. DeKalb County’s is at 20.1 percent and Steuben County’s stands at 19.8 percent.

Northeast Indiana coronavirus totals on Dec. 7:

  • Adams County: 36 new cases for 2,093 total. No new deaths for 26 total. 7-day positivity rate 11.7%.
  • Allen County: 322 new cases for 22, 125 total. No new deaths for 351 total. 7-day positivity rate 18.3%.
  • DeKalb County: 48 new cases for 2,280 total. No new deaths for 41 total. 7-day positivity rate 20.1%
  • Huntington County: 32 new cases for 1,689 total. No new deaths for 12 total. 7-day positivity rate 12.8%.
  • Kosciusko County: 38 new cases for 5,428 total. No new deaths for 51 total. 7-day positivity rate 12.6%.
  • LaGrange County: 9 new cases for 1,691 total. One new death for 36 total. 7-day positivity rate 20.2%.
  • Noble County: 40 new cases for 3,143 total. No new deaths for 50 total. 7-day positivity rate 13.1%.
  • Steuben County: 47 new cases for 1,835 total. No new deaths for 16 total. 7-day positivity rate 19.8%.
  • Wabash County: 24 new cases for 2,096 total. No new deaths for 27 total. 7-day positivity rate 13.1%.
  • Wells County: 12 new cases for 1,552 total. No new deaths for 39 total. 7-day positivity rate 16.5%.
  • Whitley County: 35 new cases for 1,767 total. No new deaths for 17 total. 7-day positivity rate 24.2%.
