Manchester University Adds Nursing Bachelor's Degree

Manchester University

Manchester University announced Monday the development of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Spokeswoman for Manchester University Anne Gregory says the addition of the nursing program to Manchester aims to help address a shortage of nurses, not only in Indiana.

The US willexperience a shortage of registered nurses as the Baby Boomer generation gets older, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nurses.

Lea A. Johnson has been hired as the vice president for health science initiatives. She will develop and launch the nursing program, among others.

Gregory says hiring a nursing director is the first step in the rigorous accreditation process through the Indiana Board of Nursing and Higher Learning Commission, which could last as long as a year.

She says the nursing program will be a great addition to Manchester, due to the university’s strong science-based programs already in place.
