May 4: Region's COVID Positivity Above Five Percent

Three new COVID-19 deaths were reported in northeast Indiana on Tuesday, and the 7-day positivity rate was up from 5.4 percent at the end of last week to 5.6 percent.

 

There were 116 new cases reported throughout the area on Tuesday. Deaths were reported in Allen and Kosciusko counties.

 

The state’s positivity rate is down to 4.7 percent, and there were 824 new cases reported Tuesday, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

And nearly 1.7 million Hoosiers have been vaccinated against the virus.

 

Seventy-seven northeast Indiana residents are hospitalized with the illness, among the 967 people statewide.

 

LaGrange County remains in the orange, the state’s second-worst category for COVID-19 spread based on 7-day positivity rate and cases per 100,000 residents. 

 

Steuben, DeKalb and Whitley counties join LaGrange County in the “orange” category.

 

Wells, Adams, Huntington and Wabash counties remain in the best category, according to the state.

 

Northeast Indiana totals for May 4:

  • Adams County: 4 new cases for 3,403 total. No new deaths for 54 total. 7-day positivity rate at 0.9%. Total of population fully vaccinated 31.1%.
  • Allen County: 63 new cases for 40,359 total. 2 new deaths for 675 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.2%. Total of population fully vaccinated 35.2%.
  • DeKalb County: 2 new cases for 4,269 total. No new deaths for 84 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.9%. Total of population fully vaccinated 29.6%.
  • Huntington County: 5 new cases for 3,863 total. No new deaths for 80 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.9%. Total of population fully vaccinated 36%.
  • Kosciusko County: 13 new cases for 9,347 total. 1 new death for 84 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.2%. Total of population fully vaccinated 27.8%.
  • LaGrange County: 1 new case for 2,638 total. No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.8%. Total of population fully vaccinated 20.5%.
  • Noble County: 13 new cases for 5,557 total. No new deaths for 83 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.6%. Total of population fully vaccinated 27.9%.
  • Steuben County: 6 new cases for 3,810 total. No new deaths for 57 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.9%. Total of population fully vaccinated 38.8%.
  • Wabash County: 2 new cases for 3,524 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.3%. Total of population fully vaccinated 32.1%.
  • Wells County: 1 new case for 2,902 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3.8%. Total of population fully vaccinated 32.2%.
  • Whitley County: 5 new cases for 3,927 total. No new deaths for 39 total. 7-day positivity rate 34.1%
