Protesters gathered outside the Allen County Prosecutor's house yesterday (Sunday), asking that charges be dropped against non-violent offenders who were arrested as a result of the protests at the end of May.

The protest formed on the median outside of Prosecutor Karen Richards home at about 2 p.m. About a half an hour later, Richards came outside to engage with protesters at the end of her driveway.

Protesters wanted Richards to explain charges against non-violent protesters and why police seemed to be facing no repercussions from the weekend of protests from May 29 to the 30.

Richards stood outside with protesters for about an hour, talking about the need to review footage from the weekend before making decisions about charges. Victoria Hardy, who engaged with Richards yesterday and was arrested during protests on May 29, says she was unimpressed with the answers they were given.

“Like what I said to her, it just sounds like she’s reading off this black and white piece of paper. She can read these black words and repeat these black words to us, but she can’t stand up with us for the Black lives that we’re standing up for,” Hardy said.

The prosecuting attorney’s office is working through video footage from that weekend, and according to Richard’s, is setting up a way for protesters to submit their own video from the weekend in an attempt to identify protesters who caused damage to surrounding businesses.
