Sept. 8: 10 New COVID Deaths Reported In The Area

Ten new COVID-19 deaths were reported Wednesday in northeast Indiana, among 86 reported statewide.

The deaths occurred over the past few days, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

There were 325 new cases of the virus reported in the area, with 158 of them in Allen County.

 

Locally, deaths were reported in Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Kosciusko and Wabash counties.

 

The area’s remaining ICU capacity is again below 10 percent, with 293 area residents hospitalized due to the virus.

 

DeKalb and Whitley counties are now “red”, the state’s worst category for COVID spread. The designation is based on cases per 100,000 residents and 7-day positivity rates.

 

The area’s 7-day positivity rate is at 11.6 percent.

 

Statewide, an additional 5,324 Hoosiers are now fully vaccinated, bringing the total to 3.14 million.

 

Only Adams and LaGrange counties have vaccination rates below 40 percent of the eligible population.

 

Northeast Indiana totals:

  • Adams County: 21 new cases for 4,222 total. 1 new death for 64 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.8%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 37.1%.
  • Allen County: 158 new cases for 50,616 total. 5 new deaths for 733 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 55%.
  • DeKalb County: 16 new cases for 5,355 total. 2 new deaths for 91 total. 7-day positivity rate at 14.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42.1%.
  • Huntington County: 16 new cases for 5,693 total. No new deaths for 88 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.1%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 46.5%.
  • Kosciusko County: 29 new cases for 10,774 total. 1 new death for 132 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.8%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 41.7%.
  • LaGrange County: 9 new cases for 3,008 total. No new deaths for 73 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.1%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 25%.
  • Noble County: 19 new cases for 6,975 total. No new deaths for 98 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 40.6%.
  • Steuben County: 15 new cases for 4,563 total. No new deaths for 64 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.4%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 46.1%.
  • Wabash County: 16 new cases for 4,563 total. 1 new death for 88 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.5%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 41.1%.
  • Wells County: 7 new cases for 3,604 total. No new deaths for 82 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42.9%.
  • Whitley County: 19 new cases for 4,941 total. No new deaths for 48 total. 7-day positivity rate at 15.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 45.4%.
