The Allen County Democratic Party chair announced he will not be seeking reelection next year in a letter sent to party members Monday.

Derek Camp has held the position for the last four years. His term comes to an end in March 2025 and he has decided to step down, rather than run for a second term.

Camp said over the last four years, the party has seen several successes, including a net gain of Democrats in office in Allen County and a doubling of fundraising.

“Now, I’m just kind of looking at the successes we’ve done and keeping an eye on future things," he said. "And, so, just kinda want to take a moment and take a look and it’s been kind of on my mind. Plus, the last year in particular, was a very unique experience for a county chair that most Indiana parties do not get to experience.”

Earlier this year, Camp organized the caucus that chose Mayor Sharon Tucker to replace Mayor Tom Henry after he passed away in March.

In the email to party members, Camp focused on the Democratic Party’s successes over the past several years, which included holding onto the Fort Wayne Mayor’s office last fall. He said he’s incredibly proud of the work the party has done.

Camp will remain in the position until a new chair is elected in March.
