Governor Mike Pence paid a visit to Fort Wayne Friday morning at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
There are 38 days until the November 8 election, and Pence stumped for his running mate, Donald Trump, as well as gubernatorial candidate Eric Holcomb and Senate candidate Todd Young.
In his speech, Pence talked about building a strong national defense and economy, repealing the Affordable Care Act, and keeping jobs in the US.
Pence says that while the next president may only hold office for four years, their legacy could carry on for the next 40 years. Notably, when it comes to the Supreme Court, which still has a vacant seat following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
“Elect Hillary Clinton, you better get used to being subject to unelected judges using unaccountable power to make more unconstitutional actions,” said Pence. “Elect Donald Trump, and you will have a president who will make appointments to the Supreme Court of strict constructionists who will uphold the Constitution.”
While President Obama has named Merrick Garland to Scalia’s vacant seat, Congress has yet to approve the appointment and likely won’t before the end of his term.
