Beginning Monday, Fort Wayne Community Schools’ five high schools and career academy will be moving entirely to remote learning for two weeks. WBOI’s Ella Abbott reports this is due mostly to a lack of staff.
The decision comes as Allen County has been seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases, impacting the number of staff available for the schools.
Spokeswoman Krista Stockman says that moving the high schools to an entirely remote learning schedule will allow them to reallocate substitutes to the K-8 schools.
She says the two weeks, from November 23 to December 4, will give the district the time needed to evaluate the situation.
“So by the second, we’ll take a look and see where we’re at in terms of community spread and make any decisions about the remainder of the semester at that point.”
Stockman says the blended learning schedule that FWCS has been using has kept them from seeing many cases in their schools.
Last week, Southwest Allen County Schools and Northwest Allen County Schools both also announced that secondary schools would be moving virtual for a period of time.
