The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board appointed Noah Smith to replace Tom Smith as the representative for District 3, Monday night.
Noah Smith is the owner of BOD Financial group and has three daughters in Fort Wayne Community Schools.
Board secretary, Anne Duff, nominated Noah Smith for the position and he received the four votes needed to be approved.
“I think a lot of his values and opinions align with those of us already on the board. He’s willing to speak up, ask questions. He’s willing to learn.”
Tom Smith originally applied to run for reelection in the November election, but ultimately decided to retire from the board instead. The decision came too late to be removed from the ballot, but he encouraged people to vote for his opponent. Tom Smith still won a little more than half the vote on November 3rd.
The board began taking applications for his replacement last month and met with five candidates over zoom - Noah Smith, Julie Smith, Casey Claypool, Sheri Rouse and William Critell, who ran against Tom Smith in November.
Noah Smith and Sheri Rouse were both nominated by board members at Monday’s meeting, but Noah ultimately won the board’s approval. Noah Smith’s term will begin on January 1, 2021.
