Aug. 10: Two Northeast Indiana COVID Deaths Reported

Steuben and Noble counties each reported a death Tuesday due to COVID-19, as the area’s positivity rate continues to climb.

 

There were 356 new cases reported in northeast Indiana, with a 7-day positivity rate of 8.5 percent, under the state’s overall 7-day rate of 9.2 percent.

 

There are 145 northeast Indiana residents hospitalized with COVID, and COVID patients are filling nearly 17 percent of the area’s ICU beds.

 

According to health department data, all area counties with the exception of LaGrange and Allen counties, saw double-digit increases in COVID cases reported on Tuesday.

 

While LaGrange only reported two cases, Allen County reported 166 new cases, the highest number since Jan. 20.

 

Steuben, DeKalb, Huntington, and Whitley counties all have 7-day positivity rates of 11.5 percent or above.

 

The World Health Organization has deemed positivity rates above 5 percent unsafe for community spread.

 

The highly-contagious Delta variant makes up 87.2 percent of all COVID cases currently reported in the state.

 

There are 2.98 million Hoosiers vaccinated, 51 percent of the eligible population.

 

Northeast Indiana totals for Aug. 10:

  • Adams County: 25 new cases for 3,671 total. No new deaths for 56 total. 7-day positivity at 4.4%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 35.5%.
  • Allen County: 166 new cases for 44,541 total. No new deaths for 701 total. 7-day positivity at 8.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated at 52.1%.
  • DeKalb County: 12 new cases for 4,720 total. No new deaths for 86 total. 7-day positivity at 11.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 40.1%.
  • Huntington County: 46 new cases for 4,523 total. No new deaths for 82 total. 7-day positivity at 7.9%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 44.4%.
  • Kosciusko County: 24 new cases for 9,919 total. No new deaths for 124 total. 7-day positivity at 11.5%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 39.3%.
  • LaGrange County: 2 new cases for 2,805 total. No new deaths for 73 total. 7-day positivity at 9%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 24.2%.
  • Noble County: 23 new cases for 6,144 total. 1 new death for 92 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 38.8%.
  • Steuben County: 12 new cases for 4,201 total. 1 new death for 62 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.1%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 44.3%.
  • Wabash County: 17 new cases for 3,803 total. No new deaths for 84 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.9%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 39.2%.
  • Wells County: 12 new cases for 3,110 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 41.2%.
  • Whitley County: 16 new cases for 4,307 total. No new deaths for 11.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42.6%.
