Carroll High School held its annual E-Day for freshmen on Wednesday.
The E-Day — which stands for employment, enlistment and enrollment— sends freshmen students through four sessions to learn about their options once they graduate.
Through the day, students hear three panels – from colleges, the military and human resources – and walk through a career fair with about 50 employers, the most Carroll has seen for the event.
Assistant Principal Jeremy Yates said they’ve found that the messaging towards students for most of their lives has been that college is the only way forward after graduation.
“And, we’re finding that’s not really the case," Yates said. "There are a lot of really good opportunities within the skilled trades that can happen immediately after high school.”
The program opened with a presentation from the MadeByMe coalition, which is designed to bring career choices to high school students. Kevin Morse represented MadeByMe at the career fair.
He said there are so many opportunities that students don’t know about.
“Especially as freshmen in high school," Morse said. "It’s a great chance to look forward and see what is out there.”
