Fort Wayne SPCA, H.O.P.E for Animals Announce New Name Following Merger

HUMANE FORT WAYNE

Following a merger in January, The Allen County SPCA and H.O.P.E for Animals announced their new collective name is Humane Fort Wayne.

The rename is a step in the effort to solidify a joint identity. Formally, the two organizations are the Humane Society of Fort Wayne.

Executive Director Jessica Henry said the organization put together a focus group to decide on a name that would signal how united the two organizations are in their efforts to save animal lives.

“And the name Humane Fort Wayne was chosen because to us it indicates that there are many, many ways that we work to save lives in our community - not just through spay and neuter, not just through pet adoption, but a myriad of ways that we’re working to save animals lives,” Henry said.

Henry also said the new name will offer more clarity and a bigger distinction of the local organization from the national ASPCA group, which is not affiliated with any of the local SPCA organizations.

Under the new name, all of the programs available for pets from both organizations will continue to be offered.
