Sept. 23: New COVID Testing Sites Open

DeKalb County is opening up two remote testing and vaccination sites in Auburn next week in response to the ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases in northeast Indiana.

DeKalb County has a 7-day positivity rate of 14.6 percent, one of the highest in the area. There were 44 new cases reported on Thursday, for a total of 5,783. Ninety-one DeKalb County residents have died from the virus.

 

The remote testing and vaccination sites will be at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum parking lot on Sept. 29 and 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be one at the DeKalb County Fairground Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 from 12 to 8 p.m.

 

There were 420 new cases reported in northeast Indiana on Thursday, but only LaGrange County remains in the state’s worst category for COVID-19 spread, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

There are 242 northeast Indiana residents hospitalized with the illness.

 

Indiana’s new COVID totals declined for the seventh straight day in a row, to 3,659 new cases. That is down from a high of 5,901 new cases during the highest point of this most recent surge, on Sept. 1.

 

Northeast Indiana totals as of Sept. 23:

 

  • Adams County: 15 new cases for 4,455 total. No new deaths for 68 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.5%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 38.2%.
  • Allen County: 147 new cases for 53,759 total. 1 new death for 760 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated  56.3%.
  • DeKalb County: 44 new cases for 5,783 total. No new deaths for 91 total. 7-day positivity rate at 14.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 43.2%.
  • Huntington County: 30 new cases for 6,031 total. No new deaths for 95 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 47.9%.
  • Kosciusko County: 31 new cases for 11,448 total. No new deaths for 135 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.8%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42.9%.
  • LaGrange County: 17 new cases for 3,235 total. No new deaths for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 15.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 25.4%.
  • Noble County: 26 new cases for 7,435 total. No new deaths for 101 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.4%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 41.8%.
  • Steuben County: 26 new cases for 4,997 total. No new deaths for 68 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 46.9%.
  • Wabash County: 27 new cases for 4,862 total. No new deaths for 92 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42.2%.
  • Wells County: 38 new cases for 3,887 total. 1 new death for 84 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.2%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 44.1%.
  • Whitley County: 19 new cases for 5,265 total. No new deaths for 53 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 46.5%.
