Suspect Arrested After Person With Knife Reported At IU

IUPD Captain of Administration Craig Munroe says the alert was triggered by a report of a stabbing at Merrill Hall on IU's Bloomington campus.

 

The incident involved two juvenile campers, one male and one female. Munroe says the boy stabbed the girl with an unknown object and caused several superficial wounds. He then left the scene.

 

IUPD officers picked up the boy off campus. He's currently in custody on campus. The girl has been taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Indiana University sent an alert out to students and staff Friday morning about the report of a subject with a knife near Merrill Hall on the Bloomington campus.

 

The original alert was sent at 10:17 a.m. and advised students and staff to shelter in place and lock doors if possible. IU said police were doing a protective sweep of the Jacobs School Practice Building. 

 

IU's campus buses temporarily suspended service during the alert.

 

Thirty-five minutes after the original alert, IU emergency officials reported that the threat was no longer immiment and the subject had been detained off campus. 

 

Police are still active near the Jacobs School of Music.
