The City of Fort Wayne announced Citizens Square would reopen to the public on Monday.

The downtown building has been closed since late November as a precaution due to the rising spread of COVID-19.

But 7-day positivity rates and deaths have been lower in recent days around northeast Indiana and the rest of the state. City officials believe they can safely reopen the building and others including the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission office and the Parks and Recreation Department office.

On Thursday, Allen County reported 168 new cases of COVID-19, and no new deaths.

Only Steuben and Wells counties reported new deaths on Thursday.

Around the region and statewide, the numbers of deaths have been declining steadily since the beginning of the month. Positive case totals per day have also declined.

All counties in northeast Indiana, with the exception of Whitley County, saw 7-day positivity rates below 15 percent on Thursday.

Northeast Indiana COVID hospitalizations were down below 200, a low not seen since late October.

Totals for each area county on Jan. 21 are:

  • Adams County: 12 new cases for 2,990 total. No new deaths for 35 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.5%.
