Local Officials Testing Positive For The Virus; LaGrange County Positivity Rate Still Very High

Fort Wayne Community School Superintendent Mark Daniel is recovering at home from COVID-19 and New Haven Mayor Steven McMichael is currently hospitalized with the illness.

They are the latest high-profile area examples of the continued advancement of COVID-19 infections.

Indiana saw 5,702 new cases Tuesday, with 657 of those in northeast Indiana. There were 13 new deaths in the region, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

While some counties in northeast Indiana have seen their 7-day positivity rate slip down slightly, almost all remain above 10 percent, well beyond the warning level for community spread.

LaGrange County remains the county with the highest positivity rate, still around 25 percent.

The majority of cases are occurring in those between the ages of 50-59, with 17.1 percent. Those between the ages of 20-29 make up 16.6 percent of the cases in the area.

Northeast county totals are:

  • Adams County: 12 new cases for 1,664 total. Three new deaths for 22 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9%.
  • Allen County: 304 new cases for 17,631 total. Two new deaths for 293 total. 7-day positivity rate at 17.4%.
  • DeKalb County: 26 new cases for 1,758 total. Two new deaths for 31 total. 7-day positivity rate at 16.1%.
  • Huntington County: 34 new cases for 1,285 total. No new deaths for 10 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.8%.
  • Kosciusko County: 97 new cases for 4,557 total. No new deaths for 39 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12%.
  • LaGrange County: 27 new cases for 1,401 total. No new deaths for 29 total. 7-day positivity rate at 24.8%.
  • Noble County: 38 new cases for 2,498 total. No new deaths for 46 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.1%.
  • Steuben County: 20 new cases for 1,435 total. No new deaths for 13 total. 7-day positivity rate at 14.7%.
  • Wabash County: 51 new cases for 1,580 total. Two new deaths for 20 total. 7-day positivity rate at 16.7%.
  • Wells County: 19 new cases for 1,204 total. One new death for 28 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.9%.
  • Whitley County: 31 new cases for 1,334 total. Two new deaths for 12 total. 7-day positivity rate at 15.4%.
