More than 500 residents of northeast Indiana have died from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The total number of known infections in northeast Indiana since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 33,195.

In the past week, there were 4,425 new cases of COVID-19 throughout the region, and 37 residents of the area died.

DeKalb County officials have issued public health orders in the wake of rising COVID-19 infections.

The order is nearly identical to the one issued earlier this week by Allen County health officials--limiting gatherings to 250 when the county is in orange, and 100 when the county is in red per the state’s COVID-19 dashboard.

The order also limits capacity in restaurants and bars to 50 percent, with no bar seating and closing establishments from midnight to 5 a.m.

DeKalb County is currently in the red zone, with a 7-day positivity rate of 18.4 percent.

Per data reported Friday, northeast Indiana passed 500 deaths from COVID-19, with 506 since the pandemic began. Nearly 33,200 have tested positive, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

Allen County saw seven deaths reported Friday, bringing that total to 282. Four hundred new positive cases were recorded.

Almost all northeast Indiana counties are now labeled red for community spread, with only Adams, Noble, Kosciusko, Wabash and Huntington still in “orange.” However all their positivity rates continue to trend upward.

Only 17.6 percent of the region’s ICU beds are available, with 32.4 percent tied up with COVID-19 patients, and 342 COVID-19 patients remain hospitalized in northeast Indiana at the end of the week, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.
